3 Things I do before 9am every day as a Nutritional Therapist

Updated: Jan 4, 2024

Sole

The very first thing I do in the morning, without fail is drink 500ml of room temperature filtered water with a teaspoon of Sole.

If you haven’t come across Sole before let me introduce you; Sole (pronounced Solay) is essentially water that has been fully saturated with a natural salt. This isn’t just a small amount of salt dissolved in water, but rather water that has absorbed as much natural salt as it is able and will not absorb any more (26%). The term Sole comes from the Latin “Sol” meaning Sun.

It might seem counter intuitive to be drinking salt as we are often told we need to reduce our salt consumption, and whilst I never suggest using regular table salt in your food, drinking this concentrated salt solution can have a number of health benefits including:

·       aiding deeper hydration, something that is so important after a nights sleep when your body has been detoxing all night

·       Boosts energy levels

·       Aids digestion

·       Improves blood sugar

·       A natural anti-histamine

·       Healthy veins and blood pressure

·       Supports weight loss…..the list goes on!

Something Green

After my morning Sole, I don’t eat or drink anything for at least half an hour.  I will then follow up with another 500ml of room temperature water, often with something alkalising added, such as a squeeze of lemon, or a teaspoon of Spirulina or Wheatgrass.

I always filter all my water and use the PiMag Waterfall to do so as this works as closely to nature as possible using a gravity filtration system and re-alkalises and re-mineralises the water too.

After my second water I will leave it another half an hour before eating breakfast – if I can I’ll use this time to do a little gentle yoga or qi gong to put me in a mindful state for the day and get my body moving.

Amazing Flaxseeds

For breakfast, I may have porridge using oats, millet, buckwheat or quinoa, some days a smoothie bowl – I ALWAYS top my breakfast with a tablespoon of freshly ground flaxseed and a drizzle of flax Oil. The benefits of Flaxseeds are endless and especially for supporting female health. I prefer not to buy ready ground, as they can spoil and go rancid quickly; you don’t want to be consuming any damaged fats so to receive the full benefits I buy whole seeds and grind them fresh each day in a small coffee grinder – it takes seconds. I then add a drizzle of fresh flax oil from Flax Farm, which I keep chilled in the fridge and always consume the bottle within 6 weeks. Flax oil is not for cooking and should not be heated but it’s fine to add to a warm porridge and adds a nutty, flavoursome nuance to the dish – the health benefits are abundant and I attribute Flax to dramatic changes in my fertility among a few other things….check out my other blogs for more uses for flaxseeds including tea, sprouting and baking!
